MISSION HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, BILASPUR (C.G)

HISTORY OF MISSION HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL
BILASPUR (C.G)

It is a well-known fact that there is deep relationship with “temple of learning” with moral and spiritual foundation, we cannot hide these qualities. People all over the world are inspired by the Godly gifts. They have strong will to explore places where they could utilize their spiritual and physical potential for the prosperity of human beings without dividing their religion and caste. Their main motto was “Service to Humanity”.

With this holy motto and with strong will for service to suffering humanity several missionaries from European Countries (USA) had visited India a century ago. Some of them settled at Bilaspur. At that time the literacy rate was zero percent. They were determined to take the first step to educate the people and in 1926 thus they founded a primary school on the banks of arpa river of Bilaspur and opened schools in a hired building of Shri. Bhagdiker, a famous advocate.

Literacy is like a spontaneous, gushing eternal flow of a river. The gust for it has no en, consequently the pioneer Missionaries struggled relentlessly to pace with the advancing desire of education. They started a separate Middle School in 1926 in which Mr. G. L. Nathanial was the first Headmaster. In 1933 Rev. M. M. Scott joined the Mission Middle School as a teacher. In 1944 when late Rev. G. L. Nathanial was the head master with the help and guidance of the Governing body 9th class was started. In the year 1946 when Rev. G. L.  Nathanial retired, Rev. M. M. Scott was appointed as the Head Master of the School.

As the School developed due to shortage of accommodation, some of the classes of middle school were held in Ashley Bungalow Jerhabhata Bilaspur. Rev. H. P. Gamboe, the Manager of the school, laboured hard to raise donation from the states. The congregation of the Laxington Central church Kentuchy U.S.A generously donated a large amount. This only helped in the construction of the double storied building. In 1948 Rev. M. M. Scott took leave for one year from the governing body for further studies at Texas Christian University U.S.A. In his absence Mr. Vijayam from Madras was appointed as Head Master for one year i.e. 1948-1949 from 1954 Rev. M. M Scott was given additional responsibility as the Manager of the School from 1957 he served as the principal of the School, as the government changed the designation of the head master. In his Principal ship the last matric batch one of the students Mr. Ajay Singh Chandel stood first in M.P in the Board Merit List. After his long service from 1933 to 1975 (42 years) he retired in the year 1975, after that Shri. R. B. Lall from Government Service took over this seat and served from 1975 to 1985. Mr. R. E. Benjamin Lecturer in this school became the Principal from the year 1985 to 1989. Shri. A. K. Nath was appointed in this school as a lower division teacher a few years ago. Later on he became a Principal from the year 1989 to 2002  after his retirement Mr. P. K. Scott was the Principal in charge. Now Mr P R Paul In in Charge since July 2006.

As the School is well equipped in the academic side, it is not lagging behind in sports and games. It has produced excellent athletes and players who have earned name and fame.
