Rev. Ajay Martin (Presbyter In
Charge) |
The United Christian Missionary Society was formed in USA
with the sole aim to send out to India and other nations,
Missionaries burning with passion and dedication to preach the
word of God and win souls for him. Those who dared and
volunteered came to India in the last quarter of 18th
century. |

Facing numerous odds, they journeyed by sea to Mumbai and
Kolkata. They first pitched their tents in Allichur and went out
in search of place to establish a Mission Station. They went to
Burhanpur, Hoshangabad and Bhopal and several other towns. They
found the atmosphere antagonistic and were virtually driven out.
Finally HARDA town in Central Province now M.P became their
mission station. Thus the foundation of the DISCIPLES CHURCH OF
CHRIST was laid in the year 1883. The leader of the first
missionary delegation was the Rev. Greene Lawrence Wharton who
was also the founder of this church in India. Later in 1906 he
built a Bible College in Jabalpur. This magnificent building is
the century old church now. He also founded the first church (Kalisiya)
in Jabalpur on the 18th day of February 1906, with initially
thirty one members. |
