The
Disciples of Christ Church C of C CNI has been founded and established
in the year 1986. With the prayers blessings of the Bishop the Rt.
Rev. F. C. Jonathan, and inaugurated in the month of September 1986.
There was an incident to start this Church apart from the
Disciples of Christ Church Jyotipur Pendra Road. In the beginning the
children of Sumanniketan Boys Hostel and staff were going to worship
in the Disciples of Christ Church Jyotipur. One day there was a rally
arranged by the Sunday school. There were many children who
participated in this rally. The children of Sumanniketan also
participated in this rally. At the end of the programme sweets were
distributed to the participants. But there was an objection by one of
the leaders of the programme committee to give sweets to children of
Sumanniketan.
Looking at this abnormal behavior towards the children, the
President of the Women Fellowship of the Church took up for these
children. Then the children returned to their hostel and reported the
matter to the Hostel Superintendent and Warden. They were shocked by
the behavior toward the children. After this incidence the children
refused to go to the Disciples church Jyotipur.
The President of the Womens Fellowship Mrs. Bishwas resigned
from the post and came to Sumanniketan hostel and started Sunday
School and other meetings for Sumanniketan hostel children in the
premises.
Four families, namely Mrs. Sukhmani Bishwas family, Mr. Nirmal
Arthur family, Mr. Lawrence Deen family, Mr. Madhu Newton family, Mrs.
Marina Dass joined together and had their Church service on every
Sunday in the open hall of Sumanniketan. Mr. Nirmal Arthur was
commencing the Sunday services of worship.
Then all of them applied to the Bishop of Jabalpur the Rt. Rev.
F. C. Jonathan to give the constitutional right to the Disciples of
Christ Church C of C, CNI Pendra Road. Considering the application the
Bishop inaugurated and consecrated the Church in the month of
September 1986 as a rural pastorate. The Bishop then appointed Rev.
Paras Masih as honorary presbyter in charge to look after this rural
church. He use to come once in a month to offer the Holy communion
service. This was a better start of the Disciples of Christ Church C
