Mission Higher
Secondary School, Pendra Road is situated one and a half
kilometer away from the railway station. It is in the front of the
Gourela Police Station. This school is one of the very reputed
schools of the area. In the beginning of the year 1900 the pioneer
Missionaries of Indiana Police USA visited this place and selected
the area for social development. They saw that the people of this
area are not very much literate. They then made the plan to start
a school to give literacy to the local people. Mission school
started in the year 1932. The first Manager of the school was Dr.
K. W. Bonham. He was a Doctor in medicine. The first temporary
master of the school was Mr. Klophas. The school was started with
five students. The school was not recognized. This was a Hindi
Medium School. But one of the subjects taught was English.
In the month of November 1934, Mr. Pyare Lal Arthur, was
appointed as the first Head Master of the school. The school got
recognition and was named “Anglo Hindi Middle School”. This was
the first English school of the area. A beautiful building was
built and it still remains a beautiful building of the area. At
that time the classes were distributed from 5th to 8th in the
middle school. English was the compulsory 2nd language. Other
subjects were taught in Hindi. This was a Co-Ed school where boys
and girls were studying together. Mr. Arthur brought up this
institution till his retirement. After giving big name and fame to
this institution he retired from the institution in 1967.
In the year 1965, the school management decided to give
this school a new dimension. They decided to start a Higher
Secondary School. A new building is being built. It is also a
beautiful building. In the year 1970, this institution was
registered under the Board of Secondary Education and Teacher’s
Training, (B.S.E & T.T) Church of North India (Convention of
Churches) Jabalpur Diocese. This institution is now fully aided.
The state government is giving full financial support to the
school.
This institution has produced many good political leaders,
doctors, advocates, National leaders, sportsmen, nurses,
teachers’, businessmen, church leaders, poets, contractors, etc. |
