XVIII Diocese Council

DIOCESE OF JABALPUR, CHURCH OF NORTH INDIA

Held at
– Christ Church Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Mary George Hall, Jabalpur
From –
21st to 23rd October 2004

The Diocesan Council is held once in two years. The council was held in Jabalpur from 21st to 23rd October  2004 at the Christ Church Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Mary George Hall, Jabalpur. The theme of the Council was “Another World Is Possible”.

The Council was attended by 217 members which included office bearers, presbyters and elected lay representatives from all pastorates of the diocese.

The Bible Studies on the theme were conducted by Rev. Dr. Packiam T. Samuel Executive Secretary COM NCCI. Rev. Dr. Packiam T. Samuel kept the audience spell bound as the presentation was unique and absorbing. It was punctuated by illustrations which added humor to his subject. The Bible studies were appreciated by one and all.

It was for the first time that the newly elected Bishop the Rt. Rev. Dr. P. C. Singh, Chaired the council. His inaugural address and message on the theme was heard with rapt attention and it was very challenging and touched the hearts of the delegates.

Admitting frankly that he had inherited an organization, which is vast, but also vastly, disarrayed and needs reconstruction he appealed to the delegates to ray to God to give him strength and understanding and the courage to take forward the mission of the church. The delegates were told that with God’s help much has been achieved in a short time. It was on the 1st of May 2004 that he took charge of the diocese and within a short period of five months the bad financial position had greatly improved. The liabilities amounting to more than 10 lakhs were cleared and the diocese looks forward to a bright future.

The XVIII Diocesan Council was different in many ways than the previous councils. The seating arrangements and the setting of the hall spontaneously caught the attention of anyone entering the hall. The setting was perfect for holding the council. Attention was given to small details, which was evident by seeing a bottle of mineral water kept on the table for each delegate.

Delegates were highly pleased with the lodging and boarding arrangements. The food was excellent. All this helped to create a good and congenial atmosphere for the council and this is evidence by the fact that for the first time no elections took place and ballot papers remained unused.

There were meaningful deliberations on the topics and reports presented by various committees and institutions were well received and debated upon.

The Diocese gave each delegate an aristocrat briefcase as a token of love.

The Council ended with a grave but happy note and by praising God for his guidance throughout the council meetings.
